The Crew | Trey Walker will lead McCain’s SC crew
(Trey – we still need that picture of you)
Last night The Shot broke that Trey Walker will serve as McCain’s SC campaign manager. The McCain camp just confirmed that Trey will indeed lead the SC crew. Here’s the press release:
Trey Walker Picked to Manage Senator McCain’s Presidential Efforts in South Carolina
ALEXANDRIA , VA – Trey Walker, who has served for the past four years as chief executive assistant to South Carolina Attorney General Henry McMaster, has been selected by U.S. Senator John McCain’s exploratory committee to manage the Arizona Republican’s potential presidential campaign in the Palmetto State . South Carolina will hold one of the nation’s key presidential primaries in early 2008.
Walker, who was lead consultant in McMaster’s successful statewide campaign in 2002, was then hired to direct communications and governmental affairs for the attorney general.
Walker, 39, has also served as a campaign consultant to U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham, several candidates for the United States Congress and dozens of successful campaigns for the state senate, state house and local offices. For almost seven years (1993-1999) he served as the Executive Director of the South Carolina Republican Party and served as National Field Director for Senator McCain’s 2000 presidential campaign.
“Trey is a valuable member of our political family,” said McCain. “I am grateful that he will lend his considerable talent and experience to the management of our efforts in South Carolina , which is an extraordinarily important state in the presidential selection process.”
McMaster echoed McCain’s assessment of Walker . “In my mind there is not a harder working or sharper public relations or political professional around than Trey,” McMaster said.
“It’s no accident that Henry McMaster was re-elected in 2006 without primary or general election opposition,” said John Weaver, chief strategist for McCain’s national campaign. “Trey is one of the most talented campaign professionals I’ve ever met.”
Walker’s work with McCain’s presidential exploratory committee is effective immediately. “I am proud and honored to stand with Senator McCain. He is a personal hero of mine, and I deeply believe he is the right leader at the right time for the future of our nation.”
