Ready, aim, fire!

It appears that we won’t have to wait long for the fireworks to begin.  Heck, we won’t have to wait at all!  Two things of note crossed our paths today that assured us that a level of negativity has begun and shows no sign of slowing.

Over at South Carolina ’08, a web-community designed by the LaurinLine for presidential politics, an article was posted by BJ Boling from the Boston Globe which attacks Mitt Romney for what seems to be a change of opinion on gun rights.  This could be considered the first salvo across the bow of Team Romney in South Carolina by the McCain campaign.

Next we were forwarded this little diddy:

Subject: Dobson says ‘no way’ to McCain candidacy

WND Exclusive

Dobson says ‘no way’ to McCain candidacy
Christian leader declares he couldn’t support senator ‘under any circumstances’

read the WND article here

Now we have seen the article before, but what is of note is that this email was sent by an obviously fake email address to a list of well known South Carolinians, including legislators.  We do have it on good authority that this did not come from the Romney folks which is a relief, because it is just childish.

We think most folks with just a bit of political savvy could predict a pretty tough primary campaign in South Carolina, but it is becoming increasingly clear that this is just going to be a “get down and dirty” street fight and the battle field with be in every mailbox, telephone, TV, and computer screen.

Stay tuned…

In the interest of full disclosure, I asked BJ and the McCain folks to join in the discussion on this site because there’s been an awful lot of McCain-slamming taking place on by Romney supporters lately. I want all sides to have equal opportunity to float topics for discussion on as long as asserted facts are backed up. I’m reaching out to Democrats and Republicans alike to post on the site and welcome campaigns to use the site.

“this site” (on the second line) should read “” — sorry ’bout that… got a little ahead of myself!

Laurin, do you not think there is a difference between a Romney supporter and a McCain staffer. From what I hear, the people slamming McCain on your page are 15 year old Garrett Gay and 17 year old Alex Stroman. They can’t even vote yet!

  4. Tom Says:

That first sentance should have had a “?”

Thanks for the clarification. We give props to BJ for showing who posted the article as opposed to the masked emailer who sent around the Dobson article.

I believe that BJ would be the first paid staffer to use your site to take a shot. All McCain bashing that I have seen has come from very energetic activists.

    I actually don’t think I have slammed McCain…

When I started, I emailed all the folks I know who are already “on the ground” here in SC for various campaigns — GOP or Dem. I want campaigns to use this site and to do so with full disclosure. That’s exactly what BJ did. I look forward to more campaigns talking part.

*taking part. geez, i can’t type today.
