The Crew | Obama picks up the queen
We’ve been hearing rumors all week that Laurin Manning, “The Queen of SC’s Blogosphere,” was picked up by Barack Obama’s SC campaign. After visiting the Laurin Line this morning and seeing that she closed up shop, we called Laurin and she confirmed that she has indeed joined the Obama campaign.
A graduate of Wofford College, Laurin worked as a policy and press aide in Senator Fritz Hollings’ DC office. Upon her return to SC, Laurin entered law school at USC. That’s when she decided to take her blogging hobby seriously. The LaurinLine acquired a following, and political junkies from South Carolina began tuning in to see what Laurin had to say on a daily basis. The LaurinLine has been voted “Best Local Political Blog” by the readers of the Columbia Free-Times and has been linked by some of the most widely-read political websites in the country.
Recently Laurin created a community site called SouthCarolina ‘08, which is devoted to tracking presidential politics in the Palmetto State. She has recently stated that she will be turning over the reins of the site to a new owner in the very near future.
There’s no doubt that her netroots talents can help build a strong army of online activists across the palmetto state. The question is – can Laurin be the first in South Carolina to turn online activity into real votes? Well, she didn’t confirm her role, but the Obama campaign would be foolish not to give her a try, because if anyone can…it’s Laurin Manning.
“(T)he people say The LaurinLine reigns supreme. Why? Must be Manning’s sharp and thoughtful read on state-level politics, minus some of the unhinged and testosterone-fueled hyperbole you likely associate with political bloggers.”
